Concrete vs Granite Countertops: What's the Difference?

Kitchens that are designed and built well can last generations and remain current throughout many decor trends.

When choosing finishes for your home one of the most important place is your kitchen. The kitchen often times is the heart of the home; where the family gathers, meals are enjoyed, and memories are made. Kitchens that are designed and built well can last generations and remain current throughout many decor trends. One of the first details people choose when designing their kitchen is the countertops. Here today we will discuss two very popular materials; granite vs. concrete.

Granite countertops have always been a popular choice; from their beautiful aesthetic look, their longevity, and durability. Granite comes in many colors and designs and can be cut to fit the square footage of your kitchen countertops. Granite also comes in different sizes and shapes, for example, some designers use granite tiles for a backsplash in the kitchen. When granite is not taken care of properly it can absorb stains from liquid and oils making them impossible to remove and ruining your counter permanently.

Concrete is a porous material, heat resistant (when sealed properly), and because of the endless customization options (color, shape, and sheen), it gives a unique look to any kitchen counter. You don’t have to worry about setting down a hot pot on your countertop and having it ruin that area, concrete is one of the most fire resistant materials there is! Concrete still needs to be maintained regularly, but will be durable for years.

The most important factor is finding a trusted company to install these countertops. Both need to be sealed specifically for their respective materials. This is extremely important and can jeopardize the longevity of the life of the countertop if not installed properly. Either option you choose will look extravagant! You and your family will be satisfied with the durable materials of concrete and granite and both options will increase the value of your home.
